The list
- 1Greenpoint · $$ · Greenpoint Av (G) · 70 Greenpoint Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11222
The Japanese tea importer that supplies half the praised matcha programs in Brooklyn, with a Greenpoint flagship that grinds matcha from tencha on a stone mill in-house, one of the only cafes in the country doing so. Founders Zach and Minami Mangan just opened a second Greenpoint shop, Kettl Matcha Sen Mon Ten at 38 Norman Ave, the borough's first dedicated matcha senmonten.
When the cafes on the rest of this list want great matcha, they buy it from Kettl, which tells you exactly where the ceiling is.
Order Usucha at the tasting counter, then pastry chef Chika Hanyu's matcha parfait
Book the six-seat tasting counter on Resy for the usucha flights instead of ordering at the register.

- 2East Village · $$ · Bleecker St (6 B D F M) · 54 Bond St
Also No. 1 on Best Matcha in Manhattan →
Map ↗verified 7w agoThe NoHo matcha bar that turned a Bond Street storefront into the city's most photographed matcha line, built on carefully sourced Japanese matcha treated with specialty-coffee seriousness. It is the Manhattan reference point that the outer-borough openings on this list are measured against.
The drinks justify the line, which is not something we say often about anywhere on Bond Street.
Order The iced matcha latte, unsweetened, to taste the sourcing
Go on a weekday before 10am; by noon the wait routinely passes half an hour.

- 3East Village · $$$ · Astor Pl (6) · 74 E 7th St
Also No. 3 on Best Matcha in Manhattan →
Map ↗verified 11w agoAn East Village Japanese tea ceremony house where matcha is whisked to order by a trained tea master, closer to a Kyoto chashitsu than a cafe. It is the place in New York to understand what ceremonial-grade matcha is supposed to taste like before you judge anyone's latte.
It treats matcha as a practice rather than a flavor, and one bowl here recalibrates your standards for everything else on this list.
Order Ceremonial usucha, whisked to order
Reserve ahead for the full tea ceremony seating rather than dropping in for a to-go cup.

- 4Williamsburg · $$ · Bedford Av (L) · 151 N 7th St, Brooklyn, NY 11249
A cat-themed Japanese matcha cafe whose strawberry matcha latte went properly viral, built on house-brand ceremonial-grade matcha rather than gimmick. It has grown to four locations, three in Brooklyn plus an E 14th St outpost, which is momentum, not dilution.
Reddit matcha threads call it unbeatable and the expansion has not softened the drinks.
Order Strawberry matcha latte with house-made strawberry syrup
Skip the flagship line and hit Kijitora mini at 578 Driggs Ave or Kijitora East at 309 Graham Ave for the same menu.

Ppl▲ buzzing
Williamsburg · $$ · Metropolitan Av (G L) · 189 Roebling St, Brooklyn, NY 11211A Japanese-owned cafe from Tomo Takasugi sourcing organic Japanese matcha alongside Shizuoka teas, served from a small plant-filled Roebling Street shop. It is a fixture of the standing Reddit consensus on Brooklyn matcha: Ppl, Kijitora, Kettl, no contest.
It does one thing quietly and correctly, which in the current matcha gold rush counts as radical.
Order Organic Japanese matcha latte
It is mostly grab-and-go with minimal seating, so plan to walk your latte to the waterfront.

- 6Williamsburg · $$ · Bedford Av (L) · 214 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11249
A Japanese tea room on Bedford Ave with a cult following, whisking its house Keiko-grade matcha to order the traditional way. It is a small family operation with sister shops in Bayside and Westbury, not a bubble-tea chain wearing a matcha costume.
The May 2026 Matcha Spot guide named it the pick for matcha purists, and the hand-whisking backs that up in the cup.
Order Hand-whisked Keiko-grade matcha latte, with the matcha tiramisu
Come after dinner on weekends, when it stays open until 10pm and the matcha tiramisu is the move.

- 7Ridgewood · $$ · Seneca Av (M) · 7-57 Seneca Ave, Ridgewood, NY 11385
Ridgewood's first dedicated premium-matcha cafe, opened in August 2025 and serious enough to sell its own Uji matcha tins. The Infatuation's verdict is the point: quality matcha without the Manhattan lines.
The banana cream matcha latte, made with housemade banana and condensed milk cream, is the single best new matcha drink in Queens.
Order Banana cream matcha latte
If you like the base matcha, buy a tin at the counter or from sievematcha.com and skip the cafe markup at home.

- 8Astoria · $$ · Astoria Blvd (N W) · 28-13 Astoria Blvd, Astoria, NY 11102
A Japanese cafe on the Astoria and Long Island City border where the matcha program is the draw, headlined by an iced matcha einspanner: matcha under whipped cream, dusted with more matcha. It was the lead and only Queens entry in DiningOut's April 2026 best-matcha list.
The Infatuation called the iced matcha einspanner the star and we have no notes.
Order Iced matcha einspanner
Go on a weekend, when the Japanese food menu of chirashi and handrolls runs alongside the drinks; it is closed Tuesdays.

- 9Flushing · $ · Flushing-Main St (7) · 133-33 39th Ave, Suite FH21 (Tangram), Flushing, NY 11354
A matcha-specialist chain out of Hawaii and Japan inside Flushing's Tangram mall, where matcha is the entire concept and the powder is imported directly from Japan, sourced from Harima Garden in Kyoto. The soft serve is the flagship, backed by intensely flavored lattes, floats, and shaved ice.
It is the cheapest ticket on this list to genuinely intense Japanese matcha, in soft-serve form.
Order Matcha soft serve
It runs late, until 10pm daily, which makes it the rare quality matcha stop after dinner in downtown Flushing.

- 10Castleton Corners · $$ · 1883 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10314
An independent halal cafe on Victory Blvd whose calling card is ceremonial-grade Japanese matcha, hand-whisked, alongside a full brunch menu. It holds 4.6 stars across 500-plus reviews and runs fruit-matcha specials like lychee and blueberry that regulars actually order.
It is the strongest matcha identity on Staten Island, and the hand-whisking is not a pose.
Order Hand-whisked ceremonial-grade matcha latte, or the lychee matcha
Check the shop's Instagram before you go; limited runs like the April butter pecan matcha sell through fast.

- 11Riverdale · $$ · 238 St (1) · 3700 Riverdale Ave, Bronx, NY 10463
A women- and Latino-owned workspace cafe in Riverdale, opened in 2023, running the most ambitious matcha program we could verify in the Bronx: a Blue Lavender Matcha Latte, seasonal blueberry and strawberry shortcake matchas with cold foam, and a vegan lemon-matcha loaf. It is coffee-first, but it is the only Bronx matcha recognized on any third-party citywide matcha list.
The floor-to-ceiling windows over Riverdale plus a real specialty-matcha board make it the borough's honest answer, not a consolation pick.
Order Blue Lavender Matcha Latte
The seasonal matchas rotate, so check the live online menu before making the trip for a specific flavor.
